Congress leaders from the Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra regions on Tuesday met the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, to insist that the Centre keep Andhra Pradesh united.
The Seemandhra delegation was led by Higher Education Minister K Sailajanath and Eluru MP K Sambasiva Rao.
The leaders reportedly wanted the PM to follow the
6th option recommended by the Justice B N Srikrishna Committee, the panel appointed by the Centre to study the Telangana statehood demand. The 6th option had suggested keeping the state united.
The PM is said to have asked the Seemandhra delegation to "be patient", and to wait for a decision.
Meanwhile, Congress In-Charge Of AP Affairs Ghulam Nabi Azad has called for a meeting of Congress representatives from all the 3 regions - Telangana, Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra - for talks on the Telangana issue. The idea is reportedly to keep in check the in-fighting and to arrive at a consensus on Telangana within the party at least.
