In the wake of University of Hyderabad research scholar Rohith Vemula's suicide on Sunday and allegations that a letter by the Union Minister has sparked it off, the Hyderabad police have cordoned off the area around Bandaru Dattatreya's residence in Ram Nagar since Monday.
Despite that, members of the Telangana Jagruti Yuva Morcha staged a protest outside the house of the Union Minister of State for Labour & Employment on Tuesday. Alleging that Dattatreya's letter to Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani was responsible for the suspension of five dalit students and led to Vemula's suicide, they raised slogans against both the Union ministers and demanded their resignations.
The riot police guarding the place rounded up several of the protestors and whisked them away to a police station.
