Sathya Sai Trust Behind Cash Seized?
Penukonda DSP Kolar Krishna has said that the police have clear evidence to prove that the money being illegally transported away to Bangalore belonged to the Satya Sai Trust.
Contradicting the claims of the Satya Sai Central Trust, Penukonda Deputy Superintendent of Police Kolar Krishna on Monday said that the police suspect the role of a prominent member of the Trust in the transport of Rs 35.5 lakh from Puttaparthi to Karnataka.
Police seized a vehicle carrying the money from Puttaparthi to Bangalore in the wee hours of Sunday, at Locharla near Kodikonda check post in Kothacheruvu mandal.
Talking to media persons in Anantapur, the DSP stated that the police have clear evidence to prove that the money seized at Kodikonda belonged to the Satya Sai Trust.
However, Krishna added that so far, no member of the Satya Sai Central Trust has claimed the money.
Earlier on Sunday, Satya Sai Central Trust member RJ Ratnakar had stated that the Trust has no connection with the money, and that it had written proof that the money was part of donations for the construction of the Maha Samadhi for late Satya Sai Baba.
"We have proof that 12 devotees had withdrawn the money from a bank on Saturday," Ratnakar said.
Meanwhile the Anantapur Court has remanded driver Harish Nanda to police custody till June 27.
The police said Nanda was caught while carrying the Rs. 35 lakh illegally, on suspicion that the money belonged to Satya Sai Central Trust. (INN)
