The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will construct 1,000 modern toilets, including completing pending ones, in the city in the next three months. Besides giving a new look and providing modern facilities to 435 existing toilets in different areas, the GHMC would construct modern toilets for providing for the convenience of citizens.
GHMC Commissioner Janardhan Reddy today held a meeting which was attended by representatives of the BCL, the HPCL and the IOC petroleum companies.
He said that the GHMC reviewed the condition of the existing toilets. He also said that several of the old toilets were not being used due to various reasons, including legal tangles.
He also said that toilets that were built in 365 petrol bunks across the city were not being used. He urged the petroleum companies to provide modern facilities in these toilets and encourage people to use them.
This time, toilets would be built on BOT basis without any burden on the GHMC, he said. The GHMC would propose a new design for these toilets.
"We have called tenders for the toilets. The last date for tenders is October 29. The pre-bid meeting will be held on October 22. Apart from this, we have also pegged user charges at Rs. 2, Rs. 5 and Rs. 10," the Commissioner said.
