The Andhra Pradesh Non-Gazetted Officers Association will continue its strike, as the cabinet sub-committee that met it for talks has failed to make any assurance to the striking employees on fulfilling its demands.
The cabinet sub-committee, headed by Finance Minister Anam Ramnarayana Reddy, along with Chief Secretary Dr. P K Mohanty, had held talks with the striking employees at the state Secretariat, in Hyderabad, on Sunday.
However, the union leaders said that ending the strike is not something that is in their hands. They said that Seemandhra employees would continue the strike till the Centre makes a clear statement assuring them that Andhra Pradesh would not be bifurcated.
The cabinet sub-committee told the on-strike employees that it would discuss their demands with Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy before giving them an assurance.
It may be mentioned here that nearly 4 lakh employees affiliated with the APNGOs and other unions have been on an indefinite strike since the midnight of August 12, in protest against the proposed bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh to create a separate Telangana state.
The strike has brought the administration in the entire state, especially in 13 districts of coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema, to a halt. (INN)
