Telugu Desam Party MPs from the Seemandhra region began "indefinite" fasts at the Mahatma Gandhi statue at Parliament, on Monday, in protest against the proposed division of Andhra Pradesh.
The MPs - Konakalla Narayana Rao, Modugula Venugopala Reddy and Nimmala Krishnappa - squatted at Mahatma Gandhi's statue, holding placards in favour of Samaikyandhra. They also condemned their
suspension from the Lok Sabha along with that of 8 Congress MPs.
They alleged that the Congress had taken a unilateral decision on the state's division without considering its implications.
Further, they demanded that the decision to bifurcate the state to create Telangana be reserved, and that the UPA government constitute an all-party committee to study the issue. (INN)
