Coal production in Singareni Collieries Company Limited has hit a new low, on the 4th day of the Telangana employees' general strike.
As against the daily output of about 1.35 lakh tonnes, the current partial production is of a mere 35,000 tonnes, in Manuguru in Kothagudem.
According to SCCL Chief General Manager Chandrasekhar, nearly 60,000 miners were on strike, affecting the production in 36 underground mines and 12 open-cast mines. The official loss during the 3-day strike has been estimated to be Rs. 70 crore.
Thermal power production has also been badly hit.
However, Mahanadi and Western Coal fields have come to AP's rescue, making available 239 million units (MU) as against a power requirement 247 MU. (INN)
