The Bowenpally police, on Saturday, arrested a maid-servant and her associate, and recovered stolen jewellery worth nearly Rs. 20 lakh from her possession.
According to police, on June 16 this year, a complaint was received from S Raghava Reddy, a resident of Kamsary Bazar, New Bowenpally, about the theft of gold and diamond jewellery worth Rs. 20 lakhs from his house.
The Bowenpally police kept watch over the movements of suspects, and found that an ex-maid servant Koppula Laxmi alias Varalaxmi, who worked in the house of the complainant for a long time, had committed the offence.
According to the police, Varalaxmi confessed that she had committed the offence, and that she gave her associate Gunda Tataji alias Balaji a major share of the stolen property, concealing the remaining in her house.
She reportedly said that she had stolen the valuables intending to a lead lavish life with her associate Guda Tataji by visiting various places in Andhra Pradesh.
Stolen jewellery of about 507 grams, worth nearly Rs. 20 lakh, was recovered at their instance.
The arrested are being produced before the Honourable XI ACMM Court, Secunderabad, for judicial custody. The case is being investigated by Additional Inspector of Police K Srinivasulu. (INN)
