The Hyderabad police today arrested the main accused, a suspended employee named Srinivas (a hardware engineer), in the Raj Bhavan hard disks theft case.
This marks the second time that the person has been arrested - his first arrest was in connection with a case involving morphed photos used to harass a female colleague, and he had been placed under suspension, too.
Despite being under suspension, however, Srinivas allegedly evaded security and entered the premises at night to commit the theft.
The fact that he has been arrested twice within a week has created a sensation.
For those who came in new, on May 10, a female employee at the Raj Bhavan had reported that her photos had been morphed and sent to Srinivas, who then informed her of the incident. A case was filed at the Panjagutta police station, and during the probe, Srinivas himself was identified as the alleged culprit. He was subsequently suspended from service by the Raj Bhavan authorities. He was also arrested on May 12 but was released on bail two days later.
After his release, he returned to Raj Bhavan, stole hard disks from a computer, and fled. Following a complaint from Raj Bhavan officials, investigators reviewed CCTV footage and identified Srinivas as the perpetrator. He was re-arrested and the stolen hard disk was recovered.
Preliminary findings suggest Srinivas stole the hard disk in an attempt to erase incriminating evidence, as it reportedly contained photographs related to the earlier harassment case.
