BRS MLC Sravan Dasoju today alleged a massive Rs 160 crore-plus procurement scam in the supply of bunker beds to the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) schools, accusing top officials of inflating prices and manipulating tender norms.
Expressing outrage over the "Bunker Bed Tender Scandal" unfolding in the Telangana Education Department under the guise of student welfare, the MLC claimed that the price per bed was fixed at Rs 35,830 - nearly three times the earlier Rs 12,000 to Rs 15,000 range - resulting in an excess burden of over Rs 100 crore on the exchequer.
He also alleged that while earlier beds used 95 kg of heavy-duty steel, the new tender reduced the weight to 75 kg, and yet the price surged, and called it "inverse logic corruption".
He also accused officials of framing turnover norms to sideline Telangana MSMEs and favour select large firms.
He added that the department denied RTI disclosures related to note files and tender evaluations.
Dasoju demanded a CBI and CVC probe, immediate cancellation of the tender, public release of all procurement documents, and intervention from Union ministers Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay, citing the Centre's 60:40 funding share in KGBV schools. He vowed to continue his fight until accountability was fixed.
