Rosaiah tells APGENCO to take advantage of the good monsoon and generate maximum hydel power.
Chief Minister K Rosaiah asked APGENCO on Sunday to make use of every drop of water to generate maximum hydel power in the State.
Rosaiah said to the officials, "We need power for agriculture, industry, trade and domestic sector. The demand for power is on the rise and hence, it is necessary to augment generation. Thanks to abundant rains and good monsoon throughout the State, all reservoirs are full. We have to make the best use of this".
Rosaiah appreciated APGENCO for record hydel power generation in September.
"Keep it up. Well done", Rosaiah congratulated APGENCO.
"What about our future plans for power generation?," the Chief Minister asked the APGENCO officials. The officials told the Chief Minister that APGENCO had taken steps to ensure maximum possible power generation.
The Chief Minister said since hydel power generation was the cheapest, they must make optimum use of each drop of water and generate additional power. The Chief Minister said that since monsoon was very good, cultivation in the State was also extensive and hence, the increase in the demand for power.
The Chief Minister specifically directed APGENCO officials to expedite capital overhaul of all thermal power stations to ensure satisfactory power supply during Rabi/summer season. APGENCO is likely to generate an additional 4000 MU compared to last year. If the same 4000 MU are to be purchased from the other sources/open market, the burden on exchequer would be in excess of Rs. 1000 crore.
The Chief Minister held a review meeting with Chief Secretary S.V.Prasad, Principal Secretary to Rosaiah, CVSK Sarma, Principal Secretary, Energy, Suthirtha Bhattacharya, CMD, APGENCO, K Vijayanand, and Director, APGENCO D Prabhakar Rao, stressing on hydel power generation and its impact on the finances of AP power sector.
Officials informed the Chief Minister that APGENCO's Hydro Power Stations achieved the highest monthly generation of 1855.5 Million Units (MU) during September, 2010 surpassing the previous high of 1823.5 MU achieved during August, 2007, since the inception of APSEB/APGENCO. APGENCO power stations achieved the highest monthly generation 3735.6 MU during September, 2010 surpassing the previous high of 3594.1 MU achieved during September, 2008. APGENCO power stations achieved the highest daily generation 134.4 MU on 14.9.2010 surpassing the previous high of 132.6 MU achieved on 26.9.2008. APGENCO Hydro power stations are generating an average 62 MU per day.
The Chief Minister was happy that the Rayalaseema Thermal Power Project Unit-5 (210 MW) is all set to be commissioned by this month 25th (25-10-2010). APGENCO's total generation during April to September 2010 is 16879.1 MU against 15452.2 MU generated during corresponding period last year, registering a 9.2% increase. Out of the above hydel generation from April to September 2010 is 3645.5 MU against 2651.6 MU during same period last year, i.e., up 37.5%. Thermal generation during April to September 2010 was 13233.7 MU against 12800.6 MU during the same period last year, marking a 3.4% rise.
Keeping in view the future power demand in Andhra Pradesh, APGENCO has taken up massive capacity addition program of 16,865 MW during XI and XII plans consisting of 11 thermal, 5 hydel, 2 gas and 1 nuclear power projects.
