A gang of three inter-state robbers this afternoon created commotion and panic by firing in the air near the Neeru's showroom in Jubilee Hills on Road No. 36 while trying to escape from the pursuing city Task Force personnel.
One of the cartridges fired by one of the miscreants pierced through the thoracic region of an L&T worker Dharmendar Singh. The locals rushed him to a hospital nearby. The criminal was overpowered after which the police drove him away.
According to the police, on a tip-off about the gang's plans to rob a cash-collecting vehicle, a city Task Force police team was waiting at the spot to catch the members red-handed. On being caught by an Inspector, one of the gang members, identified as Faheem alias Abdul, pulled out a weapon and fired in the air. However, a cartridge hit an L&T worker nearby.
It is learnt that the suspected inter-state gang sneaked into the city five days ago with an intention to carry out a bank robbery. The Task Force personnel, who already had a tip-off about the presence of the gang, were on the hunt for its members at different places in the city. This afternoon, they received information about their presence at Road No. 36, Jubilee Hills. As the cops tried to pin down one of the gang's members, he pulled out his revolver and opened two rounds of fire in the air, in an apparent bid to escape.
Police said that two of the gangsters belonged to Hyderabad, and another hailed from Bengaluru.
The incident sent shockwaves through the locality, where several high-end stores and the Jubilee Hills police station are located.
