Continuing its drive against the violation of rules by the private tour operators in the state, the Road Transport Authority has seized as many as 42 buses in the last 3 days.
The drive against private tour operators was launched after a bus belonging to Jabbar Travels caught fire near Palem in Mahabubnagar district, killing 45 passengers on board.
The tragic incident woke up the RTA authorities from slumber, and they started checking for violation of rules by all private operators in the state.
The RTA has seized 16 buses in Elluru, 9 in Guntur, 6 in Adilabad, 5 in Medak, 2 each in Nizamabad and Krishna, and 1 bus each was seized in Nellore and Anatapur district.
The buses were seized due to violation of norms, including lack of fitness certificates.
The checks have also been intensified on the Mumbai-Hyderabad and the Bangalore-Hyderabad highways. (INN)
