Rich tributes were paid to legendary film actor and former AP Chief Minister N T Rama Rao on the occasion of his 100th birth anniversary celebrations, at NTR Ghat on Saturday.
NTR's family members, leaders of various political parties, film personalities and other celebrities paid floral tributes to the actor.
Some TRS leaders including Telangana ministers Malla Reddy and Puvvada Ajay Kumar, Lok Sabha member Nama Nageswara Rao and former minister Motkupalli Narasimhulu, who started their political careers in the Telugu Desam Party, were among those who visited NTR Ghat and paid tributes.
Nageswara Rao said that he felt greatly honoured to take part in the celebrations, and vowed that he would strive hard on behalf of the TRS to get the Bharat Ratna awarded to NTR.
Malla Reddy too said that NTR deserved the Bharat Ratna, and urged the union government to confer the award upon him for his contribution to the upliftment of the poor.
Minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao garlanded the statue of NTR in Warangal, and recounted NTR's contribution to the film industry as well as the country.
"NTR left an indelible mark on the film industry as well as the political scene. He was reputed across the globe for his untiring efforts to spread the message of Telugu self-respect and pride," Errabelli said.
Former union minister D Purandeswari, a daughter of NTR, said that her family was in touch with the Reserve Bank of India to print the photograph of NTR on a Rs. 100 coin.
