The Telangana CM delivered the keynote address at the India-AI Impact Summit 2026 held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.
Hyderabad | 20th February 2026
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy today urged the Union government to establish a specialised Ministry of Artificial Intelligence. He said that the ministry should be responsible for developing legislation to prevent the misuse of AI and protect national security from any such misuse, and ensure that AI technologies were utilised for social justice and poverty alleviation.
The Chief Minister also called for the establishment of an India AI Council, on the lines of the GST Council or NITI Aayog, as an apex body for AI policy formulation and coordination.
Reddy also suggested that India should host AI summits every six months in different cities to maintain momentum and enhance global engagement.
Delivering the keynote address at the India-AI Impact Summit 2026 held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, the CM congratulated the Union government, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Electronics & IT Ashwini Vaishnaw for organising the summit.
He described Artificial Intelligence as "mankind's greatest invention", and said that the world was witnessing a transformational moment comparable to the discovery of fire, the invention of the wheel and the Industrial Revolution.
He said that AI represented not just technological advancement but a fundamental shift in human capability - combining intelligence, autonomy and decision-making.
He observed that while earlier inventions enhanced human physical strength, AI challenged human intellectual supremacy and, when combined with robotics, created systems with both mental and physical capabilities.
The Chief Minister said that India must not miss the AI revolution as it did the Industrial and Manufacturing revolutions. While India excelled in the services and software sectors, it did not create global technology products, and must move from being merely a user of global platforms to becoming a producer and owner of AI technologies, he said.
He proposed that India should lead across all layers of AI, including GPU chip manufacturing, green energy and data storage, platforms, core AI languages and applications, and AI-driven services.
Outlining a comprehensive roadmap for India's AI leadership, the Chief Minister proposed the establishment of a National AI War Room with participation from the Centre and the States to monitor rapid AI developments.
He said that Hyderabad was ready to host and build such an AI War Room, if approved by the Government of India.
He also invited global and national institutions to partner with Telangana in advancing AI innovation and governance.
