The newly appointed head of the TPCC MP A Revanth Reddy today slammed Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and his family in his maiden speech after his swearing-in.
Addressing a gathering of party workers and leaders, he alleged that four crore people of the state had become "captives" of the CM and his family.
Reddy claimed that he had taken charge of the TPCC with the blessings of the party's national president Sonia Gandhi and the blessings of Pochamma, Yellamma and Laxminarasimha Swami.
"Sonia Gandhi ji has made me the TPCC head to fulfil the wishes and aspirations of Telangana's four crore people. Today, there is no freedom and self-rule in the state. A group of traitors are the only ones enjoying top posts and looting the state. The fact that encounters of banned Maoists and farmer suicides continue even now says much about the current regime's way of running the state. It is clear that the TRS regime has not helped the families of the martyrs of the Telangana movement's activists. There is an urgent need to chase the TRS leaders out of Telangana," Reddy thundered.
"It is the Congress, who has always worked towards welfare and social justice, that should come into power. This will enable the people of the state to fulfil their aspirations. Our party will also honour the sacrifices made by the martyrs who laid down their lives for our state. Unlike the TRS government, which cheated the Dalits and other weaker sections of society, we will always fight for their rights and to protect their interests," the leader added.
He then called upon the party's workers to take a two-year leave from their families so that they could devote themselves to working towards the victory of the party in the upcoming Assembly elections.
Some Congress activists raised slogans stating that the MP would become the next CM of the state. However, he warned that anybody repeating such statements would be suspended from the Congress, and exhorted the cadres to raise slogans praising only Sonia Gandhi and the party.
