Former senior TDP leader and Kodangal MLA Revanth Reddy joined the Congress in the presence of AICC Vice-President Rahul Gandhi at New Delhi on Tuesday.
Besides Reddy, 14 other TDP leaders including ex-ministers, ex-MLAs and ex-MLCs joined the Congress.
Two ex-MLAs of the TRS and four prominent leaders of the Osmania University JAC including Durgam Bhaskar also joined the Congress on this occasion.
They were all formally inducted into the Congress by Gandhi in the presence of AICC Secretary R C Kuntia, TPCC President N Uttam Kumar Reddy and other senior leaders of the Telangana Congress.
After the formal joining, the Congress leaders addressed a joint press conference at the AICC Headquarters.
Welcoming Revanth Reddy and the other leaders into the Congress fold, Reddy expressed hope that their entry would strengthen the party's efforts towards realizing the original Telangana dream after ousting the TRS from power.
"During the last three-and-half-years, not only have the expectations of the people, especially those of the weaker sections, been shattered, an unprecedented level of corruption has occurred in Telangana with thousands of crores looted from the public exchequer. Nearly four crore people expected to get a better quality of life, but only one family is benefiting from and looting the new state," he said.
The Congress was all set to get to power in 2019, and it was evident from the entry of dynamic leaders from other parties into the party, he claimed.
Speaking on the occasion, Revanth Reddy said his decision to join the Congress was not a regular switch from one party to another. "Despite so many sacrifices, the real objective of the formation of Telangana has not been achieved due to KCR. He has shattered all the dreams of the people who thought statehood would improve the quality of their lives. 20 lakh students who participated in statehood movement have been denied fee reimbursement. 10 lakh youth who gave preference to the statehood agitation over focusing on their careers are still jobless. None of families of over 3,400 farmers who committed suicides in the TRS regime have received any help from the KCR government. Instead, KCR has constructed a Rs. 1,000-crore palace on 10 acres of land in the heart of the city for himself, purchased a television channel and newspapers, and amassed other assets. He has remained focused only on the welfare and growth of his own family. He is openly looting the state," he said.
"The Congress gave Telangana, and only this party can save and develop it. I joined the Congress to fulfil the real aspirations of Telangana's martyrs. Rahul Gandhi is bound to become the next Prime Minister of India, and together we will turn the real dream of Telangana into a reality," he said.
