The Telangana unit of the Congress yesterday appointed party leader A Revanth Reddy to the post of TPCC head.
The high command reportedly picked the firebrand leader for the post believing that his strong "anti-TRS" stance would help them cash in on the anti-incumbency wave that they claim has gripped Telangana.
Addressing the party's rank and file at a meeting at Shadnagar, Reddy said that he would stand by all the party workers and leaders whenever they needed him in the future.
The local cadres felicitated him and expressed their joy at the appointment by distributing sweets to all.
Several leaders from the constituency took part in the felicitation program.
However, not everyone is happy with the appointment. In fact, senior party leader Komatireddy Venkat Reddy has been left positively angered by the high command's decision. The peeved leader has even vowed that he will never step into the Gandhi Bhavan again.
Reacting to the news, Venkat Reddy also said that he would leave his political future in the hands of the workers.
Expressing his anger at the appointment, the leader alleged that the TPCC had been turned into the TDP-PCC, referring to Revanth Reddy's past affiliations with the yellow party. He alleged that the state AICC in-charge Manickam Tagore had "sold off" the PCC chief's post by picking a leader who had made headlines with his sensational "cash for vote scam".
He added that he would now confine himself to working in his constituency, but hastened to clarify that he would not be making any comment on the national leaders of the party, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, or criticise them over the appointment.
