Demanding that the State government immediately concede their long-pending demands, the Telangana State Government Retired Employees Association decided to organize an agitation in phases from August 22 to September 22.
Speaking to the media on Friday, Association President K Chandraprakash Rao and Secretary-General R Vishwas Reddy said that the Association would demand that the government pay an additional quantum of pension to retirees over 70 years of age; pay PRC arrears of nine months; implement the Comprehensive Health Scheme - free treatment (including OP and medicines) in corporate hospitals; sanction Dearness Relief funds; extend the 1956 Telangana safeguards; allot double-bedroom quarters to homeless retirees as promised; give 30% concession in TSRTC bus fare to pensioners and senior citizens; create a special redressal cell at the Secretariat; and sanction incentives to the pensioners who had participated in the Telangana liberation movements of 1969 and 2001-2014.
The Association leaders said that the retired employees would stage protests at the STOs / Tahsildar's offices on August 22 from 10 am to 2 pm and submit memoranda throughout the State. They would also stage dharnas on September 7 from 10 am to 2 pm at Collectorates and submit memoranda to district Collectors / MLAs and other public representatives throughout the State.
On September 22, they would stage a "Maha Dharna" from 10 am to 2 pm at Indira Park and submit a memorandum to the Chief Secretary, they added.
