The architect of the free power supply to the agriculture sector in Andhra Pradesh passed away at his son's residence in Sullurpeta of AP this morning.
Retired IAS officer Jannath Hussain, architect of the free power supply to the agriculture sector in Andhra Pradesh, passed away at his son's residence at Sullurpet town in Nellore district on Friday morning.
He was 74, and is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.
Jannat Hussain had been suffering from Alzheimer's disease and other age-related ailments for the last six years. His family members said that he breathed his last at 6 am.
"His body will be brought to his residence at Kundanbagh at Begumpet by the evening, and the final rites will be performed at the Punjagutta graveyard on Saturday evening," his family members said.
Jannath Hussain was born in a farmer's house at Siddharth Nagar in Uttar Pradesh, and became an IAS officer in 1977. He was allotted the Andhra Pradesh cadre.
Soon after Congress leader Y S Rajasekhara Reddy took over as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh in May 2004, he appointed Jannath Hussain as the Principal Secretary in the CMO reportedly because of the latter's upright character and integrity. After his retirement in December 2010, he was appointed as the Chief Information Commissioner by the then K Rosaiah government. He played an instrumental role in effectively implementing the Right To Information Act during his tenure. He continued in the post till 2015, after which he quietly withdrew from the public glare. He subsequently suffered from Alzheimer's disease, and his family members said that in the last couple of years he had forgotten his own name and the past.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy condoled the passing away of Jannat Hussain. The CM recollected the services rendered by Jannat Hussein in different capacities in the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh government, and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family.
