Leader Of Opposition in the Telangana State Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi cancel the newly-introduced Rs. 2,000 denomination, and review the demonetisation of the Rs. 1,000 and Rs. 500 notes immediately.
Speaking to the media at Assembly Media Hall on Saturday, Shabbir Ali claimed that the Centre introduced Rs. 2,000 notes only to encourage corruption further. He pointed out that rich people wouldn't stand in queues at banks and post offices except the poor. He also alleged that the Prime Minister had alerted Ambani and Adani on the demonetisation prior to making the public announcement in order to save their stash.
Shabbir Ali also demanded that the Prime Minister first arrest the 648 millionaires who hid their black money in offshore accounts before demonetisation.
"Lakhs of crores of rupees would have been recovered had the Centre arrested the 648 millionaires who have their money stashed abroad, instead of troubling the common man," he said.
Shabbir Ali said that several of the destitute in the city were committing suicide due to the sudden expendability of the 500 and 1,000 notes. Pointing out the Prime Minister's poll-promise to flush out black money and to deposit Rs. 15 lakhs Indian's account, Shabbir Ali alleged that the current decision was just an eyewash.
He also questioned Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao's "silence" on the issue and Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya's interference in the meeting between the CM and Governor E S L Narasimhan.
