The city police on Friday produced popular Telugu film actor Ravi Teja's brothers Bharat and Raghu Babu, along with their associate Naresh, and a Nigerian National Cheema Claymen, before the media.
The 4 were nabbed red-handed by the police late on Thursday night and arrested on charges of buying the banned drug cocaine. The Nigerian National is accused of being their supplier.
Talking to media persons at his office, Hyderabad City Police Commissioner A K Khan said the 4 will be produced before a judge for remand, and that they would be booked under Section 22-D.
Khan revealed that the police will strengthen the Anti Drug Cell so that the spreading menace of illegal drugs in the city can be curbed effectively.
The Police Chief further rued the recent space of cases in which the kin of the rich and famous were falling prey to drug suppliers and indulging in the highly addictive habit.
Khan said that the Anti Drug Cell will concentrate on the suppliers and take special care to identify sources of supply, to eliminate the menace at the root.
He also said that his men are investigating the involvement of over 60 influential people in the city in the illegal drug trade. He assured citizens that these persons would soon be taken into custody.
Khan revealed that the drugs make their way in the city from other cities, mostly from Mumbai. He added that he has already written to his Mumbai counterpart over the matter.
Lastly, the police chief said that it was the responsibility of parents to keep an eye on their wards. He said that the parents must be sensitive to their children's needs.
