Vidya Vahini is a program aimed to bridge disparities between rural and urban school students, and its software was developed by Tata Consultancy Services.
Noted industrialist and Tata Group Chairman Ratan Tata on Friday launched the Vidya Vahini, a program aimed to bridge disparities between rural and urban school students, at the Satya Sai Institution in Puttaparthi.
Talking to media persons after launching the program, Tata said Vidya Vahini is aimed at imparting quality education with the help of computers and advanced teaching equipment.
"The core objective of program is to bridge the education gap between the rural and urban areas," he said.
At present, the Vidya Vahini has 99 schools in the country, and one school each in 33 countries spread across the world.
Tata said he had visited Puttaparthi last year to hand over the software developed for the Vidya Vahini program by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).
The personal attendant of late Puttaparthi Satya Sai Baba, Satyajit, will act as the project director of the Sri Sathya Sai Vidya Vahini Trust.
The late seer had announced the program at his last birthday celebrations.
He had asked TCS to develop the software needed for the program, and later, Tata had held a meeting with Sathya Sai Trust member Chakravarthy.
Before leaving for New Delhi, Tata paid his respects at the Samadhi of the late Puttaparthi Sai Baba. (INN)
