Andhra Pradesh was almost overlooked by Union Minister for Railways Mamata Banerjee during her presentation of the Railway Budget for 2011-12 in the Lok Sabha on Friday.
Out of the 56 new express trains proposed to be introduced, only 6 trains originate from Andhra Pradesh, while 2 others make halts at stations in the state.
Banerjee announced the Tirupati-Amravati Express (bi-weekly), which will wind through Akola-Nizamabad-Gooty-Dharmavaram, and the Visakhapatnam-Koraput Intercity Express, that will run for 5 days a week via Vijayanagaram.
Apart from these, the state will also get the Howrah-Secunderabad Express (weekly) via Kharagpur, the Hyderabad-Darbhanga Express (weekly) via Muri-Jharsuguda-Nagpur, the Howrah-Tirupati Express (weekly), the Narsapur-Nagarsol Express (bi-weekly) via Secunderabad, the Nizamabad Digha-Visakhapatnam Express (weekly) and the Howrah-Mysore Express (weekly).
The Railways Minister also announced 13 new passenger trains, proposed to be introduced through the Railway Budget for 2011-12, of which the Tirupati-Guntakal Passenger (daily) will ply in Andhra Pradesh.
Apart from this, Banerjee said that the DEMU services will be introduced on the Falaknuma-Medchal, the Nizamabad-Secunderabad and the Kacheguda-Mriyalguda lines.
Besides, the Falaknuma-Bhongir MEMU services will be also introduced.
The run of the Visakhapatnam-Nizamabad Express has been extended up to Nanded, and the Hyderabad-Wadi Passenger train's run has been extended till Gulbarga.
