Despite all possible measures by the governments and the police, the monstrous evil of ragging has been claiming precious lives of junior students in colleges.
According to the KPHB police, Venkata Krishna Chaitanya, 19, son of Narasimhalal Babu, residing at Allapur Society on the Nizampet road, and studying second year B. Tech. Computer Science in Satyabhama University at Chennai, returned home two days ago and committed suicide by hanging himself onto a ceiling fan on Thursday night, allegedly due to continuous ragging by his seniors at the university.
His parents said Chaitanya entered his bedroom on Thursday night and did not come out in the morning. When they got suspicious and forcibly opened the door, they were shocked to find the boy hanging from the ceiling fan.
The victim left a suicide note in which he stated that 3rd year students Poornachander, Prakash and Surya were responsible for his extreme action.
He stated in the note, "Don't spare the senior students under any circumstances. Punish them severely."
The parents said that Chaitanya had told them that some senior students had attacked them earlier and made his life miserable. The boy reportedly told them that the seniors, belonging to Vijayawada, were harassing him constantly, and even snatched Rs 15,000 that he had withdrawn from an ATM.
The victims reportedly told his parents that his seniors threatened him to kill him if he complained to anybody.
In the suicide note, the boy stated that his senior Chandrasekhar should be brought to book. The victim had apparently also written in his diary that Chandrasekhar used to snatch his pocket money and also beat him up. He also wrote that for several months he was forced to pay the mobile and mess bills of two senior students, who are both from Vijayawada.
He said in his suicide note that he had returned home to see his beloved parents and brother before taking the extreme step.
KPHB Police Inspector V Sreekanth Goud said that they had registered a case of abetment to suicide under Section 306 IPC and under relevant sections of the Anti-Ragging Act. The case would be transferred to the police station concerned in Chennai, he added.
