Public, Optional Holidays In TS For 2016 Notified

The list of public holidays in Telangana in the year 2016, as declared by the Telangana government.
Hyderabad | 5th December 2015
The Telangana government on Saturday issued a notification declaring public holidays on the following dates under the Negotiable Instruments Act of 1881, in the year 2016.

The general holidays are:

Sankranti/Pongal on January 15, 2016;
Republic Day on January 26;
Maha Shivarathri on March 7;
Holi on March 23;
Annual Closing Of Accounts Day on April 1;
Babu Jagjivan Ram's Birthday on April 5;
Ugadi (Telugu New Year's Day) on April 8;
Dr B R Ambedkar's Birthday on April 14;
Sri Rama Navami on April 15;
Ramzan (Id-ul-Fitr) on July 6;
Independence Day on August 15;
Sri Krishna Ashtami on August 25;
Vinayaka Chavithi on September 5;
Vijaya Dasami (Dussehra) on October 11;
Moharam on October 12;
Karthika Purnima / Guru Nanak Jayanthi on November 14;
Eid Milad-un-Nabi on December 12

The following festivals occur on Sunday in 2016:

May Day on May 1;
Gandhi Jayanthi on October 2
Durgashtami on October 9;
Deepavali on October 30
Christmas on December 25.

The notification further stated that if there was any change of date in respect of Id-ul-Fitr, Id-ul-Zuha, Muharram and Id-e-Milad as per the moon's sighting, or any other holiday declared later, it would be announced through the electronic and print media.

The optional holidays for government employees in 2016 are:

New Year's Day - January 1;
Kanumu - January 16;
Yaz Dahum Shareef - January 22;
Sri Panchami - February 13;
Birthday of Hazrat Syed Mohd Juvanpuri Mehdi Ma'ud (AS) - February 23;
Mahaveer Jayanthi - April 19;
Birthday of Hazrath Ali - April 21;
Shab-e-Meraj - May 5;
Basava Jayanthi - May 9;
Buddha Purnima - May 21;
Shab-e-Barat - May 23;
Juma-Atul-Wada - July 1;
Ratha Yatra - July 6;
Varalakshmi Vratham - August 12;
Parsi New Year's Day - August 17;
Sravana Purnima / Rakhi Purnima - August 18;
Eid-e-Gadeer - September 20;
Maharnavami - October 10;
Naraka Chathurthi - October 29;
Arbayeen - November 21;
Christmas Eve - December 24
