TPCC head and MP A Revanth Reddy today demanded that the Telangana government "come to the rescue" of the farmers who had suffered heavy losses due to the rains that recently lashed the state.
He wrote a letter to Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on the issue in which he told the latter that the farmers of the state had suffered a lot due to the torrential rains, and demanded that the affected farmers be given compensation at the rate of Rs 15,000 per acre.
The TPCC head also urged the state government to provide input subsidies to the farmers for the purchase of seeds and fertilisers, to pay the the premiums of farmers' crop insurances, to implement more farmer welfare measures, and to release funds of Rs 1 lakh towards the crop loan waiver scheme.
He then criticised the KCR government for its alleged apathy towards the agrarian community, and claimed, "The state government is neither implementing the PM's crop insurance scheme nor is it implementing an amended weather-based crop insurance scheme. The government does not seem interested in implementing crop insurance programs for fear of having to paying the premiums for their implementation. The rain insurance of 2021 being implemented by the National Agriculture Insurance Corporation, too, covers damage to only types of seven crops in Telangana. The TRS regime needs to take stronger steps for the welfare of the farmers."
Referring to the increasing fuel rates in the state, Reddy pointed out that the prices were having a "terrible impact" on the agricultural sector, and reiterated his demand that the state government implement its promised crop loan waiver immediately to alleviate the pecuniary pressures on the farmers.
