Privilege Committee Summons YCP For Assembly Ruckus

The committee summoned several leaders of the YSR Congress Party for a probe into their alleged violent behaviour during the recent Monsoon session.
Hyderabad | 25th October 2016
The Andhra Pradesh Legislature Privilege Committee today summoned several leaders of the YSR Congress Party for a probe into their alleged violent behaviour while demanding a debate on AP Special Status during the Monsoon session of Assembly held to ratify several bills including the GST.

Committee Chairman Gollapalli Surya Rao called up six ministers of the YCP and ask them to appear before the bench. Four of them refused and only two turned up.

The committee will reportedly extend probe dates in order to give the rest a chance to defend themselves.

Speaking to the media after the hearing, a YSR Congress member said that the Party had to stand before the Speaker as they were allegedly being suppressed and not being given a chance to voice their opinions.

They also said that the Privilege Committee hearing was pointless as it was deadset at taking punitive action against the YCP members in question. He said that the Party would defend itself boldly if they are dragged to court, and would continue its to bring Special Status to AP.
