Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) President K Chiranjeevi on Tuesday stated that he had received an invitation from Congress Core Committee member A K Anthony inviting him for talks with Congress President Sonia Gandhi over a possible alliance between the 2 parties.
Talking to media persons while participating in a Rachabanda program, the actor-turned-politician also revealed that his party had not taken any decision on the Congress invitation as of yet.
Any decision on the alliance would be taken at a meeting of senior party leaders, Chiranjeevi said. He added that he would convene a meeting on February 3rd or 4th so that a decision on the Congress invitation could be taken.
"The final decision on alliance will be taken by party political affairs committee meeting to be held on February 3rd or 4th," the PRP chief stated.
The PRP chief said that his party leaders would have to decide whether to support the Congress from outside or whether to join the government. He, however, ruled out any merger with the Congress, saying that media reports to this effect were 'ridiculous'.
Meanwhile, the PRP MLAs on Tuesday condemned reports appeared in a section of media that PRP would merge with Congress party.
Party MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao said Congress Core Committee member A K Anthony had come to extend Sonia Gandhi's invitation to PRP President Chiranjeevi at his residence. The invitation was only for talks about a future alliance, the MLA said.
