In a major development, the Government of Telangana has appointed D Prabhakar Rao as the Chairman and Managing Director of the Telangana Generation Corporation Ltd.
Prabhakar Rao has served the power sector for more than 45 years in various top positions such as Finance Advisor & Chief Controller of Accounts (FA&CCA) / APSEB, Member of Accounts / APSEB, Director of Finance / APTRANSCO, part-time Director of APDISCOMs, Director at the AP Gas Power Corporation and Director of Finance / APGENCO.
Further, he was elevated as JMD / APGENCO in October, 2010, and very recently demitted office.
His vast experience helped the power sector to a large extent, and his continuous efforts in various cadres in APSEB, APTRANSCO & APGENCO have enabled a turnaround in power utilities.
Rao, during his tenure as JMD/APGENCO, was instrumental in tying up with international reputed banks such as the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank, and national level financial institutions like the Power Finance Corporation (PFC) and the Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) for long-term and short-term loans for the new power projects in the State.
The ERP Project SHAKTHI, the brain child of Prabhakar Rao, was a prestigious project initiated by APGENCO that brought revolutionary changes in the planning, implementation and monitoring of various modules of HR, Finance, Accounts & Material Management etc.
His indepth knowledge in the various wings of the power sector helped APGENCO transform into a modern and vibrant organization.
Rao was one of the key members of the prestigious Indian delegation to the World Bank at Washington DC, USA, in 1999, and worked in the successful implementation of the reforms and restructuring of the power sector in AP.
He was also conferred upon, the award of "Excellence In Accountancy And Finance" in 2010. Currently, he is also an advisory member at the reputed Central University of Hyderabad.
He has visited more than 20 countries such as USA, UK, Italy, France, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Japan, Bangkok and Netherlands for studying the best practices / benchmarks in the power sector to replicated the same in our conditions. (INN)
