Former minister and senior Congress leader J C Diwakar Reddy, on Saturday, called upon political leaders to resolve the Telangana statehood issue through a sharing of power between those from Seemandhra and Telangana.
Talking to media persons at the Congress Legislature Party Office, he said that the Telangana problem can be amicably resolved by sharing the post of the Chief Minister between Telangana and Seemandhra leaders.
He said that the separation problem had become strengthened since the CM's post has been mostly occupied by leaders from Seemandhra.
Hence, he suggested, leaders from Seemandhra and Telangana could share the coveted CM's post.
Diwakar Reddy said that he would hold consultations with all state-level leaders in this regard, and later take this proposal to the Congress High Command.
However, he hastened to add that this proposal was not against present Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy.
"If we consider this proposal at the implementation stage, we can solve the statehood issue amicably," he was confident.
He recalled that the same idea was floated during former Chief Minister K Rosaiah's tenure. However, no one had responded positively to it, he added.
Taking a serious note of the recent incidents of Ambedkar's statues being desecreated, he said the statues were installed at prominent places all over the state to remind people of their services and sacrifices to achieve freedom. (INN)
