Congress MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy on Tuesday demanded that the Telangana Legislative Assembly and Council pass unanimous resolutions opposing the ordinance issued by the Centre on the Polavaram Project.
Speaking to media persons at the Assembly media point in Hyderabad, Ponguleti strongly opposed the ordinance, which facilitates the merger of 7 mandals of the Khammam district into Andhra Pradesh.
He said that the ordinance was against the interests of the tribals of the Khammam district.
He alleged that the Centre issued the ordinance under pressure from the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and the Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu.
Ponguleti asked the Centre to withdraw the ordinance. He threatened that the Telangana Congress would launch a mass agitation on the issue if the Centre did not do so. (INN)
