Azharuddin, who was inducted into the Cabinet without being either an MLA or an MLC, was required to become one by April 30.

The path for the Telangana government to appoint two new MLCs has been cleared as Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla today approved the candidacies of Mohammed Azharuddin and M Kodandaram.
On August 30, 2025, the Telangana Cabinet had forwarded a proposal to the Governor recommending their appointment as MLCs. However, the Governor had not yet taken a decision on the file until today.
Azharuddin, who was inducted into the Cabinet without being a member of either House of the legislature, is required to secure membership in one of the Houses within six months of taking the oath as a minister. The deadline is April 30.
With the deadline fast approaching and no decision taken by the Governor on the MLC appointments, the situation had become a cause for concern for the government.
In this context, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy recently met the Governor at Raj Bhavan and requested a swift decision on the appointments. Following this, Shukla cleared the file.
Securing a ministerial position for Azharuddin was considered significant for the Chief Minister. The development reportedly brings considerable relief, benefiting not only Azharuddin but also the Chief Minister and the State government.
