The police recovered Rs. 2.17 lakh from the site of a gunfight with a group of armed maoists in Khammam district on Wednesday.
According to sources, the gunfight broke out when a police team, on a combing operation, noticed a movement of Naxals in the forests of Gollamadugu in Velerupadu mandal of the district, which borders Chhattisgarh.
However, no casualties were reported on either side. The Maoists managed to escape from the spot, the police said.
The police, however, seized a kit bag, domestic vessels used for cooking, Naxal literature and Rs. 2.17 lakh in cash from the scene of the gunfight.
After the exchange of fire stopped, the police continued their combing operations in the area.
Meanwhile, a Naxalite Puttiah alias Venkanna, who allegedly operated in Chhattisgarh, surrendered at Kothagudem in Khammam district on Monday.
