Refuting the allegations made by the opposition parties about the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project, Minister for Finance T Harish Rao today said that it was not fair to speak against the project sitting in Hyderabad and New Delhi, and asked the people criticising it to visit the villages to see whether the project was giving fruitful results or not.
Addressing the gathering after the swearing-in ceremony of the Chinna Koduru Agriculture Market Committee in Siddipet district on Sunday, Rao asked the opposition parties to look at the progress of the irrigation projects being constructed in other States, and compare them to the progress of the projects in Telangana.
He pointed out that the works on the Polavaram project in Andhra Pradesh had commenced before the beginning of the execution of the Kaleshwaram project in Telangana. The TRS government had completed the latter project within a short span of time, and the people were already enjoying the results of the project.
"In contrast, one officer told me that the Polavaram project in Andhra Pradesh would not be complete even after five more years," Rao said.
"No project being executed by the union government is being completed. The Polavaram project is one of the best examples of how the Centre is lethargic in completing the works," Rao said.
