Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has directed the West Godavari district administration to take up rehabilitation measures in the Polavaram irrigation project on a "war-footing".
Talking to media persons after meeting the Chief Minister at Jubilee Hall over the issue, during the Collectors' Conference, West Godavari District Collector Vani Prasad said that the CM has enquired about the progress of the resettlement and rehabilitation of victims of the Polavaram irrigation project.
The CM reportedly said that this issue must be given "top priority".
The meeting also focused on the establishment of 6,000 colonies for Girijans who would be affected due to the construction of the project.
The Collector also drew the CM's attention towards the shortage of water for Rabi crops due to a drastic fall in water level in the river Godavari.
She said that nearly 50% of canals in the Godavari delta are dry due to the shortage of water. (INN)
