Polavaram Left Canal Tenders To Be Finalised Soon
Replying to a question raised by MLA T Balaraju and others during Question Hour, Major and Medium Irrigation Minister P Sudarshan Reddy denied that the work on the left canal of the Polavaram Project has stopped.
Major and Medium Irrigation Minister P Sudarshan Reddy informed the State Legislative Assembly on Friday that measures were being taken to finalise the tender process for the work on the left canal of the Polavaram Project (Indira Sagar Project).
Replying to a question raised by MLA T Balaraju and others during Question Hour, the Minister denied that the work on the left canal of the Polavaram Project has stopped. However, he said that the tenders were invited twice and cancelled once. Orginally, tenders were invited in September 2004 under Category-I for the Indira Sagar Left Main Canal, dividing into seven packages, and then cancelled due to orders of the High Court. Subsequently, the Indira Sagar Left Main Canal was divided into eight packages as against seven packages after issuing different tender notices in January 2005, and the agencies were fixed for seven packages.
The minister said that tenders for the eighth package have been cancelled due to high tender premium and was again invited in March 2005 and the agency was finalised in December 2005. (INN)
