After formally handing over his resignation letter to Deputy Speaker Nadendla Manohar, senior leader Pocharam Srinivas Reddy on Friday stated that he was ready to sacrifice anything for the sake of the Telangana state formation.
Speaking to mediapersons at the Assembly media-point, Srinivas Reddy declared that after resigning from the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), he joined the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS).
Srinivas Reddy revealed that he had resigned from the TDP because he was never allowed to speak on the issues of his choice, neither in the Assembly nor outside. Earlier, he had been elected to the Banswada Assembly constituency on the TDP's ticket.
He accused the TDP, which had aligned with the TRS during the 2009 elections, of not honouring the promise that it made in the election manifesto on Telangana in 2009.
Stating that all the political parties were cheating the people of Telangana on the separate state issue, Srinivas Reddy vowed to continue his fight for Telangana until the Centre introduces a bill in Parliament.
The MLA lamented that the Centre has not paid heed to the Telangana statehood demand even after 600 students committed suicides. "This is the fate of the Telangana people," he stated.
Srinivas Reddy further stated that he parted ways with the TDP as it had adopted an ambivalent stance on the Telangana statehood issue.
He also said that political parties should work together and respect the sentiments and aspirations of the Telangana people.
The MLA criticized both the Central and state governments for not making any concerted efforts towards addressing the Telangana issue.
Earlier, before handing over his resignation letter to the Deputy Speaker, Srinivas Reddy made his way to the Gun Park to pay tributes to martyrs who had laid down their lives for the cause of Telangana.
