The People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India today staged a demonstration against the confinement of birds, and urged the citizens of the city to let birds fly free.
At Dharna Chowk in Indira Park, a supporter of PETA India assumed the role of a caged bird to show passersby that locking birds in cages and denying them the freedom to fly was cruel.
Holding a signboard that proclaimed, "Birds don't belong in cages. Let them fly free," the PETA India supporter stayed in the cage for some time aimed at capturing the attention of the passersby and encouraging people to reflect on the inherent suffering birds experience when confined.
"Birds are meant to feel the wind against their wings, not languish in cages," said PETA India Campaigns Coordinator Atharva Deshmukh.
"PETA India is calling on Hyderabad's residents to buy binoculars and watch beautiful birds in their natural habitats instead of imprisoning them," she added.
