BJP MP Etala Rajender expressed concern today over the recent attacks on Hindu temples, and accused the government of handling such communally sensitive cases carelessly.
Rajender, along with BJP MLAs and MPs, met Governor Jishnu Dev Verma this morning to raise the party's concerns on the issues. They urged the Governor to ensure strict punishment for the culprits.
They also lodged a complaint with the police regarding the recent attack on the Muthyalamma temple.
The leaders later addressed the media at Raj Bhavan. Rajender alleged that after the attack on the Muthyalamma temple, the State government had labelled the accused as mentally unstable and attempted to release him without proper investigation.
He further criticized the police for resorting to lathi charges and making arrests during what he described as a peaceful rally by Hindu organizations.
"Many people in the city have lost their lives in past terror attacks. Such attacks are being planned once again now by some miscreants," Rajender said.
BJLP leader Eleti Maheswara Reddy also spoke at the event, and asked Chief Minister Revanth Reddy why he did not condemn the attacks on Hindu temples. He likened the situation to the autocratic rule of the Nizam, and warned that such attacks would not be tolerated.
"An attack on temples is an attack on our mother. What is the government doing without registering a case against the accused? We will fight back," he said.
He also claimed that a hundred people were planning further attacks in the city.
The BJP delegation also met the Director General of Police (DGP), submitting a representation urging action on the temple attacks.
