With people celebrating the Bonalu festival with religious fervour and gaiety, a festive atmosphere prevailed across the twin cities on Sunday.
People thronged temples since the early morning and had darsans of the deities in their respective areas.
At the famous Lal Darwaza Simhavahini Mahankali temple, devotees visited in large numbers since the early morning to offer prayers. Dressed in traditional attire, hundreds of women were seen carrying bonams (cooked rice and jaggery) in brass pots on their heads and making offerings.
Endowments Minister Indrakaran Reddy presented silk clothes to the goddess on behalf of the State government, and offered a bonam.
Other ministers Talasani Srinivas Yadav and Mahmood Ali, and ace shuttler P V Sindhu, too offered the bonams to the goddess.
A huge crowd was witnessed at the Akkanna Madanna temple at Hari Bowli in the city, too.
Union Minister Kishan Reddy too visited scores of temples and offered prayers to mark the occasion.
Traffic restrictions were imposed on the vicinities of the temples in view of the festival, and elaborate arrangements were made for a smooth conduct of the celebrations.
