The Jana Sena Party president assured the people of Penugonda that the town would be renamed to Sri Vasavi Kanyaka Parameswari Penugonda if his party was voted to power.
Jana Sena Party president Pawan Kalyan assured the people of Penugonda today that the town would be renamed to Sri Vasavi Kanyaka Parameswari Penugonda if his party was voted to power in Andhra Pradesh.
Kalyan participated in the Kumbhabhishekam and idol installation ceremonies of the goddess at Penugonda in West Godavari district on Thursday. He performed special prayers to the 90-feet tall panchaloha idol, the tallest in the world.
Speaking on the occasion, Kalyan said, "Kanyaka Parameswari was a pious individual who sacrificed her life since honour was more valuable to her than life. Not only as her birthplace but also as the holy place of her sacrifice, Penugonda enjoys a special place in the hearts of millions of people. Thanks to the trust board members for enabling a darshan of the goddess to all by installing this huge idol. I am praying to the goddess for the wellbeing of each and every human."
Pawan Kalyan participated in the festivities in response to the invitation of the All India Vasavi Trust. On learning that the star would be arriving for the darshan of the goddess, Jana Sainiks and Jana Sena Party followers reached the town in large numbers from the early hours of the day. The path from the helipad to the temple was filled with milling crowds, and flowers were showered on the star throughout the way. The small town was rocked by the slogans of the party.
At the temple itself, vedic pundits accorded him a grand welcome upon his arrival, and amidst the chanting of vedic hymns, Kalyan went up to the upper portion of the idol where he took part in the traditional ritual.
The idol has been installed at a cost of Rs 17 crore, and special rituals will continue for five days.
