Key Congress leader in Munugode Palvai Sravanthi Reddy, daughter of late Rajya Sabha member Palvai Govardhan Reddy, and the Congress candidate in the high-profile by-election to the constituency in November 2022 (she had lost her deposit), today resigned from the Congress.
She sent a four-page letter addressed to Sonia Gandhi resigning from the primary membership of the party.
After Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy was announced as the Congress candidate, there was a rumour that she was going to shift to another party. However, just recently Sravanthi dismissed the news as untrue, and said that she would remain in the Congress.
Sravanthi became emotional after resigning from the posts in the Congress. Speaking to mediapersons at the Somajiguda Press Club, she said, "In my letter, I explained the circumstances that led me to leaving the party and the leadership. There have been irregularities in the allotment of posts and tickets for some time. The Congress has turned into a corporate and broker party. Rajagopal Reddy, who left the party because he claimed that it was dead, returned and was welcomed with a scarf. A ticket for him was announced within 24 hours. I, who was in-charge of the party and contested the previous by-election, did not say a single word. The person in the position of PCC president has trampled upon everything. Minister Jagadish Reddy came to our house and invited us to the BRS, and I saw no reason to continue in a party which did not respect me any more."
She however added, "I feel sad at leaving the Congress. My father travelled with the Congress for 60 years, and served the party in various capacities. His role in the first and third phases of the Telangana movement was very great."
