The fates of the contestants of the Palair by-election will be announced on Thursday.
All necessary arrangements for the counting of the votes polled have been made in the constituency in the Khammam district.
The election held on May 16 saw a huge turnout of voters, with an 89.73% voting percentage recorded, just marginally less than the 9001% recorded in 2014. As many as 1,70,800 voters exercised their franchise in the polling.
The ruling TRS leaders are hoping for a landslide given the higher than expected voter turnout. They are also expecting a higher majority in the Khammam Rural and Tirumalaya Palem mandals.
While minister Thummala Nageswara Rao is in fray from the TRS, the Congress roped in Sucharitha Reddy, widow of Ramreddy Venkat Reddy who passed away while in office necessitating the by-election. The CPM fielded P Sudershan.
