MIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Tuesday slammed BJP MLA Raja Singh over his alleged remarks against the Prophet Muhammad.
Addressing mediapersons, Owaisi said, "I condemn the comments made by the BJP MLA. The BJP doesn't want to see peace in Hyderabad. They hate the Prophet and Muslims. They want to destroy the social fabric of India."
He demanded that the State government take strict action against the erring MLA.
He also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should at least react to the issue.
"Fight with us politically, but not like this. If Prime Minister Modi and the BJP do not support these comments, then they should react. I will say to those people not to take the law into their hands," Owaisi said.
He claimed that the statement of Singh was issued at the insistence of the BJP high command. He also said that the statement appeared to be part of a continuous attempt by the saffron party to insult the Prophet and the Muslims of the country, given a similar controversial statement by former BJP leader Nupur Sharma.
He asked the BJP high command why it was indulging in such communal politics, and whether it was trying to disrupt the social fabric of the country.
"Is the BJP not aware of the fact that India has people from all communities? The party is trying to disturb the peaceful atmosphere in the State capital, which is a destination for several important sectors of the country," he said.
He thanked the State government for acting swiftly in the issue and registering a criminal case against Singh besides arresting him. He demanded that the State government record the voice of Singh and send it to the Forensic Science Laboratory to get him convicted in the case.
Owiasi then asked the BJP high command what action it would take against its MLA for his remarks.
He alleged that the BJP and its leaders were targeting Telangana in order to destabilise it by flaring up communal tensions, and asked the party's leadership to stop its leaders from making such controversial statements.
Owaisi also condemned the controversial comments made by some youth during a protest held by the residents of the Old City of Hyderabad.
Meanwhile, some MIM corporators and several party activists held a series of protest programs across the city against Singh's comments including in front of the Chandrayangutta police station. They also lodged complaints at different police stations demanding stern action against Singh.
Meanwhile, Youtube removed the controversial posted by Raja Singh with the comments, following a direction from the police.
