Even as K Peda Peri Reddy, the Acting Chairperson of the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC), waits for an official report on the problems and demands of the striking junior doctors at the Niloufer Hospital, the junior doctors' association of the Osmania Hospital has declared a boycott of all elective duties from Friday.
The doctors, however, would attend to emergency cases, sources said.
The doctors at the Niloufer Hospital, who have earlier been assaulted by attendants and relatives of patients, have been on strike since April 21, and had approached the SHRC on April 25th with a demand that security guards be deployed in the hospital.
According to sources, the doctors at the Osmania Hospital are also facing similar troubles, and have demanded the reinstatement of a security force in the hospital premises.
Pointing out that earlier the SHRC had made it mandatory for every hospital to have security personnel posted in the premises, the doctors of the Niloufer Hospital had revealed that a special security force of 6 policemen, which was deployed at the hospital for 3 years, was withdrawn a few months back.
