Open Srisailam Waters To KC Canal: YSRCP
Government whip Toorpu Jayaprakash Reddy says that the House could not pass the resolution as there was no majority for passing the Telangana resolution.
A delegation of YSR Congress party leaders from the Rayalaseema region on Tuesday urged Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy to release water from the Srisailam Dam to the KC Canal ayacutdars in Kurnool district immediately.
Talking to reporters at Assembly media point after submitting the memorandum, YSRCP Deputy floor leader Shobha Nagireddy said that Kiran Kumar Reddy did not give any positive assurance to the delegation. However, he assured that he would look into the issue after consulting the officials concerned.
Shoba Nagireddy said that the paddy crop growers in Kurnool district had suffered a huge loss due to withering of crops due to a shortage of water. She said it would be no big deal for the engineers at the Srisailam Dam to discharge water into the KC Canal as the former's storage level had touched 870 feet due to copious rains in the upper catchment areas. She warned the Chief Minister that leaders from Rayalaseema would intensify their agitation for the farmers cause if the government fails to release water from Srisailam Dam.
She also criticised Kiran Kumar Reddy for his inefficiency in taking decisions slowly due to lack of administrative experience. (INN)
