Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao on Wednesday warned the Centre that the people of region would "throw the Congress party into the Bay of Bengal if it goes ahead with the proposal of forming Regional Councils instead of agreeing to a separate Telangana state".
Talking to media persons after participating in a memorial program to pay homage to late Telangana ideologue Kothapalli Jayashankar held at Ravindra Bharathi in the city, KCR demanded that the Centre stand by its 9 December 2009 statement made by Union Home Minister P Chidambaram and expedite the process of forming a separate Telangana state.
"If the Centre backtracks on this announcement, the people of the region will bundle the Congress party and dump it in the Bay of Bengal. The region will become a hotbed of agitations," the TRS chief warned.
He continued, "We do not want anything other than a separate Telangana. We are ready to sacrifice anything for the cause of the state, including our lives. The agitation cannot be stopped by arresting me and Telangana Political Joint Action Committee convenor M Kodandaram."
KCR further warned Prime Minister Manmohan Singh that the latter would be held responsible for any serious consequences which arise in the state if the Centre tries to set up Regional Councils.
Earlier, Telangana leaders took an oath in the name of Prof. Jayashankar, that their main goal would be achieving Telangana first. (INN)
