The voting percentage in the Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency (primarily constituting the Old City) in the Lok Sabha elections polling held today was just 39.17%.
This despite enormous noise by many leaders and NGOs asking people to go and vote, and despite the temperature being quite tolerable.
This is even lesser than the 44% in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
The voting percentage in the Secunderabad and Malkajgiri constituencies was only marginally better, at 42.48 and 46.27.
The Chevella constituency, where most of the IT employees are based, saw a voting percentage of 53.15.
The government declared a holiday today to enable people to vote, forcing even private businesses to give a paid holiday to employees. However, most people just chose to treat it as a long weekend.
On the whole, Telangana saw a voting percentage of 62.32. Given that Hyderabad is almost 28% of the population of Telangana, clearly the city dragged down the overall number.
