Activists of All India Students Federation (AISF), Greater Hyderabad Unit, on Saturday staged a dharna against the visit of US President Barack Obama to India, and burnt his effigy at Narayanaguda crossroads.
Shouting slogans against the US President, the activists, under the leadership of AISF city in-charge Sudhakar and assistant secretary Uma Mahesh, staged the protest.
They alleged that the US President was aiming to impose his capitalist policies on the country, and trying to build financial relations with India as part of his visit. The activists stated that Obama's visit would put a strain on the relations between 2 major economic countries in South Asia — India and China.
They said the visit of Obama would increase tensions between India and Pakistan, as US was Pakistan's main arms supplier, and supplies even nuclear arms to the country.
The AISF leaders claimed that 40 crore people in India are against the US President's visit.
"Through his visit, Obama wants to reduce the unemployment rate in US by sacking Indians working in that country, and wants to strengthen his position in the US," they pointed out.
"Obama wants to promote foreign universities in India, and would also sign nuclear deal agreements to promote his country's interests," they said.
